“Dreams from God or Something I Ate”

Dreams, Dreams, Dreams… So many people have question when it comes to dreams. Question such as: Is this dream from God or What is the interpretation of this dream? I want to spend some time today dealing with this subject of dreams. I want to get you thinking about whether your dream was truly from God or whether it was something you ate. God can speak to us anyway he wants to. But please understand that if your dream is contrary to the Bible, the dream is not of God. Dreams cannot be put into a place of authority over the Scriptures. Through out the Bible there are plenty of examples of God speaking to man through dreams. Examples are Joseph, son of Jacob (Genesis 37:5-10); Joseph, the husband of Mary (Matthew 2:12-22); Solomon (1 Kings 3:5-15); and several others (Daniel 2:1, 7:1; Matthew 27:19). There is also a prophecy from the prophet Joel (Joel 2:28), quoted by the apostle Peter in (Acts 2:17), that mentions God using dreams. I think it’s important for us as believers to seek the counsel of God concerning dreams. To often people react because they had a dream, but that does not necessarily mean the Lord was speaking. Have you ever thought about something so long that you went to sleep dreaming about it? That doesn’t mean God is speaking that could just be your feelings. I can go even deeper if you will allow me to be real. There is a certain kind of dream called a wet dream, is that a dream from God? I DON’T THINK SO. Ecclesiastes 5:7 “For in the multitude of dreams and many words there is also vanity”. If you have a dream and are really struggling with the interpretation you should seek God through prayer and read your Word. The Bible states in 2 Timothy 3:16 “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness”. It’s important for us to understand that now we have the completed Bible we don’t have to rely on dreams to guide us. The Bible reveals everything we need to know from now until eternity. Most people rely on dreams because they don’t take the time to read the good book. That scripture said it gives us instructions. The men and woman of the Bible days didn’t have what we have today which is the completed Bible. I don’t want to make this blog seem as though I'm against all dreams. I believe God still speaks through vision and dreams. Acts 2:17 “And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams.” I think what we must be careful of, is other people saying I had a dream about you. I am just a believer if God is going to give you a dream about me he most likely will just give me the dream. And let me just pause for a minute to give the ladies a word of advise. Ladies one of the biggest pick up lines in church today is “I had a dream you were my wife”. Woman have been falling for that for years. You fool around and believe that and marry someone out of Gods will and that dream will quickly become a nightmare. Zechariah warns against people claiming to have dreams. Zechariah 10:2 “For the idols speak delusion; he diviners envision lies, and tell false dreams; they comfort in vain. Therefore the people wander their way like sheep; they are in trouble because there is no shepherd”. Please do not be deceived by these false dreamers. Some will even come in the name of Jesus and try to deceive us. Jeremiah 23:25–28 ““I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy lies in my name, saying, ‘I have dreamed, I have dreamed!’ How long will this be in the heart of the prophets who prophesy lies? Indeed they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart, who try to make my people forget my name by their dreams which everyone tells his neighbor, as their fathers forgot my name for Baal. “ The prophet who has a dream, let him tell a dream; And he who has my word, let him speak My word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat?” says the LORD.” Be on your guard people of God. I am not trying to persuade you to believe or not to believe in dreams I'm simple trying to get you to seek Gods flawless Word to direct your life. The next time you have a dream that seems hard to interpret ask yourself is this from God or is it something I ate. If it’s from God his Word will back it up…
